Our History

Menzies Ampol Frenchville was built and began trading in November 1965. Walter Menzies (known to all as Glen) built the building on the corner of Dean and Stewart Streets in the suburb of Frenchville, Rockhampton.  Over the years the Business has traded under Menzies Brothers Pty Ltd and in 2013 this was changed to Menzies Auto Service Pty Ltd. The business currently trades under the names of Menzies Auto Service, Menzies Ampol Frenchville, and Menzies Towing Service.

From the first day of trade, Glen’s son Ray Menzies and his wife Del ran and managed the business solely.  This was the case for a number of years and many long hours were put in day and night to ensure the business ran successfully.  Ray Menzies was a fully qualified mechanic and completed his trade at Lawrence Motor Company in Bolsover Street.  Ray was joined by his brother Mervyne after he completed his apprenticeship as a Panel Beater at Lomas Panel Works in Alma Street.

Wayne Menzies joined his two older brothers after finishing his schooling.  Wayne completed his mechanical apprenticeship under the watchful eye of Ray and together the three brothers worked and grew the business.

Today the business is still run by the family, Wayne Menzies is the Director of the business, Raymond and Mervyne have since retired.  During operation, the business has given many of the extended family members opportunities to learn trades and participate in this close family business.

Menzies Auto Service has been servicing the Rockhampton and Central Queensland region for over 50 years.
